![]() At 6 years of age all children begin their basic education in an elementary school in a language that they speak. For the next three years they develop the basis for sound literacy and numeracy skills, family and community values including discipline; personal health care and respect for others. At 9 years of age children continue their basic education in a primary school. After six years of primary education that begins with a bilingual program, children have the skills to live happily and productively, contribute to their communities and use English to understand basic social, scientific, technological, and personal concepts and value learning after grade 8 Elementary Education - is a great beginning.

FODE Education - an attractive alternative.
Flexible, Open and Distance Education has the potential to reach a broader audience at a lower cost to the client.
In addition, it has the potential to address the difficulties of distance and terrain in the delivery of education
services to all Papua New Guineans.
The principal target groups will be:
- Grades 6 to 8 in remote schools
- Students who choose to complete Grade 9 and 10 education through FODE mode and then articulate into the formal system following graduation from grade 10
- Those who want to complete Grade 12 education, matriculation programs to progress into tertiary institutions and
- People undertaking technical and vocational training courses.
TVET Education - opportunities for further education and training.
A system of self-sustaining institutions, under an independent regulatory authority designed to train an appropriate workforce for employment in the formal and informal sectors, including self employment, with linkages to National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board and other recognised training providers.
