Elementary Curriculum:
There are three outcomes-based elementary syllabuses in PNG - Language, Cultural Mathematics and Culture and Community.
The syllabuses have been implemented in elementary schools since 2004.
The syllabuses have recently been updated and reprinted. You may access the revised syllabuses in pdf form by clicking on the name of the syllabus.
Primary education in PNG covers the grades 3 to 8 and is divided into lower primary, grades 3-5 and upper primary grades 6-8.
There are separate syllabuses for upper and lower primary. Under the reform all primary syllabuses will be outcomes based.
Lower Primary - There are seven (7) new outcomes-based lower primary syllabuses have been developed by the Curriculum Development and Assessment
Division of the PNG Department of Education. The syllabuses which have been printed and distributed to all community and primary schools in PNG.

Upper Primary - The Secretary for Education has approved seven new outcomes-based syllabuses for upper primary education. The syllabuses
were distributed to schools of Papua New Guinea. Copies of syllabuses can be downloaded by clicking on the name of the relevant syllabus.

The Board of Studies has approved the new lower secondary syllabuses as trial draft documents. The draft syllabuses were trialed in schools
in 2006 and the feedback from teachers used to finalise the syllabuses for implementation in 2007.
