From 2026 onwards, e-School
Registration will become compulsory, ensuring transparency, compliance, and
effective monitoring of all schools.
Secretary for Education and Chairman
of the Senior Education Officers Conference (SEOC), Dr. Uke Kombra, said this
is to ensure transparency, compliance, and effective monitoring of all schools.
“Our call to action is clear:
strengthen e-registration, improve infrastructure, enhance teacher capacity,
and engage communities to secure sustainable education pathways for all
children in Papua New Guinea,” Dr. Kombra said.
Dr Kombra said school registration is
not just a bureaucratic process, but a guarantee that our children’s learning
begins on the right foundation.
“It ensures quality, access, and
proper progression through the education system,” Dr. Kombra stated.
Dr. Kombra highlighted significant
achievements, including improved compliance with Department of Education
standards, increased transparency in the approval of schools, and expanded
access to education through the registration of new schools.
Currently, a total of 13,508 schools
are formally registered under the national education system.
This includes 8,368
pre-schools/elementary schools, 4,430 primary schools, 299 junior high schools,
205 secondary schools, 152 vocational training centers, and others.
“These numbers reflect our progress and commitment to ensuring that every child in Papua New Guinea has access to a recognized and supportive learning pathway,” Dr. Kombra said.
