Government Allocates K904.5 Million for 2026 Education

(Derived from Ministerial Policy Statement 01/2026)

The Marape-Rosso Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the "leaving no child behind" directive by announcing a K904.5 million appropriation for the 2026 academic year. This reflects a 10% increase in funding compared to 2025, aimed at promoting equity by distributing national wealth to schools regardless of their geographic location or accessibility.

The K904.5 million budget is strategically allocated across three core components:

• Grants to Schools (80%): K595.2 million for direct school operations.

• Commodity Component (20%): K148 million for essential learning materials in English, Science, Mathematics, and ICT.

• Project Fees: K160 million allocated specifically for school capital works and infrastructure, taking over the fees previously collected from parents.

Acting Minister for Education, Hon. Kinoka Feo, MP, highlighted new initiatives for 2026, including the first-time trial of a TVET Equipment Voucher System. This trial is designed to provide Vocational institutions with industry-relevant tools to enhance practical learning. The policy also includes increased support for National Schools of Excellence (NSoE), which will see a 20% grant increase, while Special Education (IERC) grants will double.

The Minister emphasized that this funding supports the 1-6-6 school structure and provides for students in registered Permitted Schools at a rate of K100 per child. Stakeholders are urged to study the full guidelines to ensure the policy is implemented according to national standards.
